FAQs
FAQs
Can I visit my dog during their board & train?
No. We do not allow visitation as it breaks the flow of our relationship building and training of your dog. Some dogs are VERY sensitive to seeing their owners leave them and it can take DAYS for them to adjust and be willing to work on training, instead of moping or searching for their families whenever they are near doors or outside. We will post pictures and/or video periodically on our social media so you can see what your pup is up to.
Where will my dog stay during his board & train?
All dogs are kept indoors IN our home. They will be crated during the night and whenever we leave our home and for parts of the day for nap time.
What does a typical day look like during a board & train?
Dogs will be let outside for some free time in the mornings and evenings to play with other friendly and appropriately sized dogs. During hot, super cold, or stormy weather, outside time will be minimal and mainly for potty purposes until weather is more conducive to longer play times. During the day and evening, dogs will have 2-3 training sessions that will vary in time from 5-25 min sessions, based on individual progress and age. Dogs may train inside and/or outside our home as well as in pet friendly public places.
Do you guarantee my dog’s training for life?
No. We cannot guarantee training results for life since we cannot guarantee that the FAMILIES will follow good training maintenance and daily management practices for their pet after they are integrated back in the home. We will provide you with the information and tools to help you reach your goal with your pup, but then it is up to you to build the relationship you want with your dog, practice clear and consistent communication, and to enforce the expectations you have in a fair manner, both with positive and negative consequences. The more effort you put into your dog’s training when they return home, the more reliable your dog will be for the family as well!
Can I just board my dog WITHOUT doing any training?
No. We no longer offer boarding services as we only accept a few dogs at a time. All dogs must be enrolled in a board & train program of some type during their stay here. If you are looking for some boarding options, we recommend our friends down the street at Companion K9 Dog Services.
Do you only train large breed dogs?
No. We get ALL sizes of dogs for training. In fact, we have 9 resident dogs who all range from 3-10lbs! So we have a play group for our small dog clients and a different playgroup for our large breed clients.
I don’t want to send my dog away...can you just do private lessons at my house with my dog?
We are no longer offering private lesson training so that we can focus on our board & train clients. The only lessons we offer are those for our past and current board & train students
My dog already knows basic obedience. Can I sign him up for your Advanced training?
Maybe. We would need to know more and see videos of your dog’s skill level. In our experience, most dogs DO NOT have the skill set needed to just jump into our Advanced Training if they have not gone through our Basic Training first. Why is that? Well because we jam pack our Basic Training Program with a lot more than other trainers might. If you HAVE to have food in your hand for your dog to comply to a command and/or say a cue repeatedly, we can pretty safely say that your dog will not be ready to jump into our Advanced Training. But the Basic Program may be what you actually need to tighten up your dog’s training knowledge and fill in the gaps. Most people don’t really need our Advanced Training Program as our Basic Program is designed to reach the goals of most pet owners.
Can you customize a board & train for my dog?
Yes. Let us know what type of training you are needing to help you with your future goals. We can draw up a training program that will fit your needs. In addition to typical obedience, we can offer scentwork training (competitive nosework, SAR/Cadaver), trick training, some service dog work, swimming lessons (warm months only), some agility training. We DO NOT offer any protection work/bite training.
Do you use e-collars on all the dogs during their board & train?
Not necessarily. We talk with all owners first about the potential use of an e-collar and get permission to do so. We use a variety of training tools but have to choose what will work best for your dog’s personality and goals. Other tools may include, leashes, platforms, clicker, food, prong collar (plastic or metal), gentle leader, Treat & Train machines, toys, training gates/xpens, basket muzzles, targets, and cameras.
